The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And your garments purify! 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
