The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
