The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him – was with body and soul.) 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
