The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A beseecher besought the visitation of chastisement, 1 (a chastisement meant) for the unbelievers, one which none can avert; 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 Indeed, they see it [as] distant, 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 When evil comes upon him he is impatient; 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 Save worshippers. 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 So those who desire more than this – it is they who are the transgressors. 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 and perform their witnessings, 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
