And We did certainly create man out of clay from an altered black mud. 26 And the jinn We created before from scorching fire. 27 Recall when your Lord said to the angels: "I will indeed bring into being a human being out of dry ringing clay wrought from black mud. 28 When I have shaped him, and breathed My spirit in him, fall you down, bowing before him!' 29 The angels bowed in homage in a body 30 save Iblis: he refused to be among those who prostrated themselves. 31 (Allah) said: "O Iblis (Satan)! What is your reason for not being among the prostrators?" 32 Said he, 'I would never bow myself before a mortal whom Thou hast created of a clay of mud moulded.' 33 Said He, 'Then go thou forth hence; thou art accursed. 34 "And verily, the curse shall be upon you till the Day of Recompense (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)." 35 "O my Lord," said he, "give me respite till the day the dead are raised." 36 "You are among the reprieved," (said the Lord), 37 till the Day the time whereof is known [to Me alone]." 38 Said he, 'My Lord, for Thy perverting me I shall deck all fair to them in the earth, and I shall pervert them, all together, 39 Except the chosen ones among Your creatures." 40 God said, "The path which leads to Me is a straight 41 over My worshipers you have no authority, except the perverse that follow you. 42 And verily, Hell is the promised abode for them all! 43 Seven gates it has, and unto each gate a set portion of them belongs.' 44
