Relate the news of Abraham to them. 69 When he said to his father and his people, “What do you worship?” 70 They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them. 71 He asked: "Do they hear you when you call them 72 "Or do you good or harm?" 73 They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus." 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 you and your forefathers -- 76 They are enemies to me except the Lord of all the Worlds 77 Who created me and showed me the way, 78 He Who feedeth me and giveth me to drink. 79 And when I am ill, it is He who cures me 80 who makes me to die and then revives me, 81 and He who will, I hope, forgive me my faults on the Day of the Judgement. 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 And give unto me a good report in later generations. 84 “And make me among the inheritors of the Gardens of serenity.” 85 And forgive my father; verily he is of the erring. 86 Do not degrade me on the Day when they are resurrected. 87 The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children 88 except him who comes before Allah with a pure heart; 89 And Paradise will be brought near [that Day] to the righteous. 90 "And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view; 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 Instead of Allah? Can they help you or help themselves? 93 So they and all the astray were flung into hell. 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 By Allah! we were certainly in manifest error, 97 when we considered you equal to the Lord of the Universe. 98 "'And our seducers were only those who were steeped in guilt. 99 so now we have no intercessors, 100 Nor a true friend; 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
