These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 and a good many of later times. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 And were stubborn upon the great sin (of disbelief). 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people. 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 And drinking on top of it from scalding water 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 nay, we are deprived [altogether]." 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
