The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 arise and warn, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 purify your garments; 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 it scorches the skin; 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
