The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Last Day came near, and the moon split apart. 1 (Regardless of any Signs these people see), they turn away and say: “This is an ongoing sorcery.” 2 They belied (the Verses of Allah, this Quran), and followed their own lusts. And every matter will be settled [according to the kind of deeds (for the doer of good deeds, his deeds will take him to Paradise, and similarly evil deeds will take their doers to Hell)]. 3 And indeed there has come to them news (in this Quran) wherein there is (enough warning) to check (them from evil), 4 narratives that are full of consummate wisdom. But warnings do not avail them. 5 (Muhammad), leave them alone. On the day when they will be called to a terrible punishment, 6 they will come forth from their graves, with their eyes downcast, [swarming about] like locusts scattered [by the wind,] 7 running in confusion towards the Summoning Voice; [and] those who [now] deny the truth will exclaim, "Calamitous is this Day!" 8 ۞ Before them the people of Nuh rejected, so they rejected Our servant and called (him) mad, and he was driven away. 9 so he cried out to his Lord, saying, "I am overcome, so help me!" 10 Then We opened the gates of heaven unto water torrential, 11 And We made water to flow forth in the land in springs, so the water gathered together according to a measure already ordained. 12 But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, 13 She floats under our eyes (and care): a recompense to one who had been rejected (with scorn)! 14 And indeed, We have caused such [floating vessels] to remain forever a sign [of Our grace unto man]: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 15 How was then My punishment and My commination! 16 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 17 Ad treated (the truth) as a lie, so how (great) was My punishment and My warning! 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground). 20 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
