The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the pluckers (the angels of death), violently plucking (the souls of the unbelievers), 1 and move [in their orbits] with steady motion, 2 and float [through space] with floating serene, 3 and the outstrippers (angels), outstripping, 4 And then they manage the affair, 5 On the Day the blast [of the Horn] will convulse [creation], 6 and will be followed by the second one, 7 Hearts on that day shall palpitate, 8 Eyes be lowered in submission. 9 They are [presently] saying, "Will we indeed be returned to [our] former state [of life]? 10 "What! - when we shall have become rotten bones?" 11 They said: That then would be a return occasioning loss. 12 Surely it will need but one shout, 13 and then, lo, they will be fully awakened [to the truth]! 14 Has the story of Moses reached thee? 15 When his Lord called him in the sacred valley of Tuwa, 16 "Go to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed. 17 and say, 'Will you reform yourself? 18 Then I will guide you to your Lord that you may come to fear Him.'" 19 So he showed him the great sign, 20 but the Pharaoh rejected it and disobeyed (Moses). 21 Then he turned away in a hurry, 22 Then he gathered his people and cried aloud, 23 Saying: "I am your lord, most high", 24 So God seized him for the punishment of the Hereafter and this world. 25 Truly there is a lesson in this for those who fear (the consequences). 26
