And when the envoys came to the family of Lot, 61 He said: Surely you are an unknown people. 62 They said, "No, but we bring you news about what they disputed, 63 and we are bringing thee the certainty [of its fulfilment]: for, behold, we are speaking the truth indeed. 64 Go, then, with thy household while it is yet night, with thyself following them in the rear; and let none of you look back, but proceed whither you are bidden." 65 And We communicated to him the decree that by the morning those people will be totally destroyed. 66 The people of the town came along, revelling, 67 [Lout (Lot)] said: "Verily! these are my guests, so shame me not. 68 And fear Allah, and humiliate me not. 69 They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?" 70 [Lot] said: "[Take instead] these daughters of mine, if you must do [whatever you intend to do]!" 71 Verily, by thy life (O Prophet), in their wild intoxication, they wander in distraction, to and fro. 72 So As-Saihah (torment - awful cry, etc.) overtook them at the time of sunrise; 73 and turned the land upside down, and rained down stones of baked clay. 74 Surely in that are signs for such as mark; 75 And verily they are on a pathway lasting. 76 Indeed in that is a sign for the believers. 77 And the dwellers in the wood indeed were evil-doers. 78 We afflicted them with punishment. Both people had clear (divine) authority among them. 79
