Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Dawn, 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Join My servants. 29 Enter then My garden." 30
