Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of the dawn. 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
