A numerous company from among the first, 39 and a good many of later times. 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 And they have been persisting in the heinous offence. 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 Then will fill your bellies with it. 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!" 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; 66 nay, we are deprived [altogether]." 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
