A company of the former peoples 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers – 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 And drinking on top of it from scalding water 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower? 72 We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision unto the campers. 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
