The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked round; 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
