" 17 [But when Moses had delivered his message, Pharaoh] said: "Did we not bring thee up among us when thou wert a child? And didst thou not spend among us years of thy [later] life? 18 Yet you committed the deed you did, surely you are one of the ingrates." 19 Moses replied: "I committed that act erringly. 20 so I fled from you, fearing you. But my Lord gave me Judgment and made me one of the Envoys. 21 And [as for] that favour of which thou so tauntingly remindest me - [was it not] due to thy having enslaved the children of Israel?" 22 Said Pharaoh, "And what is the Lord of the worlds?" 23 Moses answered: "The Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them, if you were only to believe." 24 (Pharaoh) said unto those around him: Hear ye not? 25 [And Moses] continued: "[He is] your Sustainer, [too,] as well as the Sustainer of your forefathers of old!" 26 Said he, 'Surely your Messenger who was sent to you is possessed!' 27 [Moses] said, "Lord of the east and the west and that between them, if you were to reason." 28 (The Pharaoh) said: "If you took another god apart from me I will have you incarcerated." 29 [Moses] said, "Even if I brought you proof manifest?" 30 Said he, 'Bring it then, if thou art of the truthful.' 31 Then he flung down his staff and it became a serpent manifest, 32 And he drew forth his hand, thereupon it shone bright before the beholders. 33
