The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn, 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 and purify your robes, 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
