The Town (Al-Balad)

20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 (It is) the freeing of a slave, 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 or some needy person in distress, 16 and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 Fire will be an awning over them. 20

Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
