The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
