The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 Often will those who disbelieve wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and let them be preoccupied with (false) hope. They will come to know! 3 We have never destroyed a township without a definite decree having been issued; 4 and no nation outstrips its term, nor do they put it back. 5 And yet, they [who deny the truth] say: "O thou unto whom this reminder has [allegedly] been bestowed from on high: verily, thou art mad! 6 Why do you not bring down the angels if what you say is true". 7 We send not down the angels, save with truth; 8 As for the Admonition, indeed it is We Who have revealed it and it is indeed We Who are its guardians. 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 But never came a messenger to them but they mocked him. 11 Even so do We [now] cause this [scorn of Our message] to pervade the hearts of those who are lost in sin, 12 they believe not in it, though the wont of the ancients is already gone. 13 Even if We open a door in the heavens and they ascend through it in broad daylight, 14 they would have said, "Our eyes are bewildered and we have been affected by magic." 15
