The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
