The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing exalting. 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 facing one another. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The Companions of the Right 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and extended shade, 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
