In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Stand up in Prayer by night, all but a small part of it; 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Indeed getting up in the night is tougher, and the words flow with strength. 6 Indeed you have a lot of matters during the day. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 Verily, We have sent to you (O men) a Messenger (Muhammad SAW) to be a witness over you, as We did send a Messenger [Musa (Moses)] to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
