The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has there come on man a while of time when he was a thing unremembered? 1 Verily We! We created man from a sperm of mixtures, that We might prove him, wherefore We made him hearing, seeing. 2 Surely We guided him upon the way whether he be thankful or unthankful. 3 Verily, We have prepared for the disbelievers iron chains, iron collars, and a blazing Fire. 4 Indeed the virtuous will drink from a cup, containing a mixture of Kafoor. 5 which flows from a spring from which the servants of God will drink. 6 They fulfill vows and fear a day the evil of which shall be spreading far and wide. 7 they give food, for the love of Him, to the needy, the orphan, the captive: 8 'We feed you only for the Face of God; we desire no recompense from you, no thankfulness; 9 Lo! we fear from our Lord a day of frowning and of fate. 10 So God has guarded them from the evil of that day, and has procured them radiancy and gladness, 11 and will reward them for all their patience in adversity with a garden [of bliss] and with [garments of] silk. 12 Reclining there upon couches, they shall see neither the sun nor the moon. 13 The shadows will bend over them, and low will hang the clusters of grapes. 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver, and goblets of crystal, 15 Godblets of silver, they shall have filled them to exact measure. 16 And in that [paradise] they will be given to drink of a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 drawn from a spring (in Paradise) called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And there shall go round unto them youths ever-young. When thou seest them thou wouldst deem them pearls unstrung. 19 And when you look there [in Paradise], you will see pleasure and great dominion. 20 Upon them there will be garments of green silk, rich brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure beverage to drink. 21 This is your reward. Your endeavour is fully acknowledged. 22
