He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
