The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I CALL TO witness the heavens and the night Star -- 1 Do you know what al-tariq is? 2 The star of piercing brightness; 3 [for] no human being has been left unguarded. 4 So man must consider from what he has been created. 5 Created from a gushing fluid. 6 Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs. 7 Verily He is Able to restore him, 8 On a Day whereon secrets shall be out. 9 and he shall have no strength, no helper. 10 So I call to witness the rain-producing sky, 11 and the replenishing earth, 12 Indeed the Qur’an is a decisive Word. 13 And no trifle. 14 They are hatching up a plot, 15 and I too am devising a guile. 16 So bear with unbelievers with patience, and give them respite for a while. 17
