The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
