Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 Enter among My servants 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
