Ad cried lies to the Envoys 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you any reward for it; surely my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 And be careful of (your duty to) Him Who has given you abundance of what you know. 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 “This is nothing but the tradition of former people.” 137 “And we will not be punished.” 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
