۞ We gave Abraham aforetime his rectitude -- for We knew him -- 51 When he asked his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so devoted?" 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "Both you and your fathers have certainly been in error." 54 They said: "Are you expressing your true ideas before us or are you jesting?" 55 He said: Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them; and I am of those who testify unto that. 56 By Allah, I shall certainly carry out my plan against your gods after you are gone." 57 So he made them into fragments, except a large one among them, that they might return to it [and question]. 58 They said, “Who has done this to our Gods? He is indeed cruel!” 59 They said: We heard a youth make mention of them, who is called Abraham. 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may bear witness." 61 They asked, "Abraham, did you do this to our idols?" 62 Said he, “Rather, their chief may have done it; so question them, if they can speak.” 63 So they turned towards their own selves and (inwardly) said, “Indeed you yourselves are unjust.” 64 then they hung their heads, and said, "O Abraham! You know they cannot speak." 65 He said: Worship ye then instead of Allah that which cannot profit you at all, nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship instead of God! Will you not, then, use your reason?" 67 They exclaimed: "Burn him, and [thereby] succour your gods, if you are going to do [anything]!" 68 [But] We said: O fire! Be thou cool, and [a source of] inner peace for Abraham!" 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 And We rescued him and Lout (Lot) to the land which We have blessed for the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns). 71 And We bestowed him Ishaq, and Yaqub the grandson; and We made all of them worthy of Our proximity. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (mankind) by Our Command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds, performing Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and the giving of Zakat and of Us (Alone) they were worshippers. 73 And unto Lot we gave judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him from the community that did abominations. Lo! they were folk of evil, lewd. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was of the righteous. 75
