The Thamud (people) rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 For this I ask of you no wage; my wage falls only upon the Lord of the Worlds. 145 "Will ye be left secure, in (the enjoyment of) all that ye have here? 146 Within gardens and springs 147 sown fields, and palms with slender spathes? 148 Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful? 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They said: thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 you are no different from a mortal like us. So produce a sign if you are truthful." 154 (Saleh) said: "Here is a she-camel. She has a right of drinking water, and you have a right of drinking it on appointed turns. 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 But they hamstrung her, then regretted; 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 159
