The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 it will be a hard day 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 He looked (at others); 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
