The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
