[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to [one of God's] message-hearers 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 Within gardens and springs 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 "And you carve houses out of mountains with great skill. 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They said: thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 Thou art but a mortal like us. So bring some token if thou art of the truthful. 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 And do not touch her with harm, lest you be seized by the punishment of a terrible day." 156 But they hamstrung her; and on the morrow were repentant, 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159
