The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 On fine parchment unrolled, 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 And the swollen sea 6 VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 And the mountains will move with a visible movement. 10 Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- 11 Who play in talk of grave matters; 12 on that Day they shall be ruthlessly thrust into the Fire of Hell. 13 (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. 14 Is this magic, or do ye not see? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." 19 Reclining on thrones, in rows; and We have wedded them to maidens with gorgeous eyes. 20 And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. 21 And We shall bestow on them fruit and meat in abundance - whatever they may desire: 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ And there will go round on them youths appointed to attend them as though they were pearls hidden. 24 And they will advance unto each other asking questions. 25 They will say: verily we were aforetime, midst our household, ever in dread. 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
