The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 Yet if they see a sign (the unbelievers) turn their backs and say: 'This is but a continuation of sorcery' 2 And they call (it) a lie, and follow their low desires; and every affair has its appointed term. 3 There have already come to them Recitals wherein there is (enough) to check (them), 4 which are full of wisdom; but the warnings do not help. 5 Therefore, turn away from them. On the Day when the Caller summons them to a terrible thing, 6 Their eyes cast down, going forth from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 They shall be hurrying forth towards the caller, and the unbelievers (who had once denied this Day), will say: “This is a woeful Day.” 8 ۞ There belied before them the people of Nuh. So they belied Our bondman and said: a madman; and moreover he was reproven. 9 And so he called unto his Lord, saying, 'I am vanquished; do Thou succour me!' 10 So We opened the gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs. So the waters (of the heaven and the earth) met for a matter predestined. 12 but him We bore on that [vessel] made of [mere] planks and nails, 13 Which sailed right under Our eyes: A recompense for him who had been denied. 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 We have made the Koran easy to remember, is there any that will remember! 17 The tribe of A’ad denied – so how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 which tore people away and hurled them as though they were trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 20 for, how severe is the suffering which I inflict when My warnings are disregarded! 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
