AND, INDEED, We have created man out of sounding clay, out of dark-slime transmuted 26 And the jinn We created before, of intensely hot fire. 27 And (remember) when thy Lord said unto the angels: Lo! I am creating a mortal out of potter's clay of black mud altered, 28 And when I have fashioned him and breathed into him of My spirit, bow before him in homage;" 29 So the angels fell prostrate, all of them together 30 Save Iblis. He refused to be among the prostrate. 31 The Lord inquired: "Iblis! What is the matter with you that you did not join those who prostrated?" 32 "How could I bow," said he, "before a mortal whom You created from fermented clay dried tingling hard?" 33 He said: Then get out of it, for surely you are driven away: 34 “And indeed you are accursed till the Day of Judgement.” 35 He said: my Lord! respite me then till the Day whereon they will be raised up. 36 Answered He: "Verily, so be it: thou shalt be among those who are granted respite 37 until the day of a known time." 38 "O my Lord," he said, "since You have led me into error I'll beguile them with the pleasures of the world and lead them astray, 39 except the devoted amongst Your worshippers. 40 Said He, 'This is for Me a straight path: 41 over My worshipers you have no authority, except the perverse that follow you. 42 "And surely, Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 Which has several gates, and each gate is marked for every section of them." 44
