a good many of olden times, 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients?' 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 and on top of this you will drink boiling water 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 You have known the first creation, then why do you not reflect? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 "We are ruined, 66 "Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)" 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 [It comes down sweet - but] were it Our will, We could make it burningly salty and bitter: why, then, do you not give thanks [unto Us]? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
