And recite unto them the story of Ibrahim. 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 "Or do you good or harm?" 73 They said: Nay, we found our fathers doing so. 74 He said: "Have you considered what you have been worshipping, 75 "You and your ancient fathers? 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 Who created me, then He has shown me the way: 78 And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink: 79 He who cures me when I am ill; 80 He who will cause me to die and bring me back to life; 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 and appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the others. 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 Forgive me and my father: He was surely among those who went astray. 86 And humiliate me not on the Day whereon people shall be raised. 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 And Paradise will be brought near [that Day] to the righteous. 90 And hell will appear plainly to the erring. 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 besides God? Can they help you or even help themselves?" 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 And the hosts of Iblis, together. 95 They will dispute between themselves therein, and will say, 96 'By God, we were certainly in manifest error 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 Nor a close friend (to help us). 101 Then if we only had a return [to the world] and could be of the believers... " 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 And verily, your Lord! He is truly the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 104
