The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then he approached and descended 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
