The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The Hour of Resurrection drew near and the moon split asunder. 1 And when they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Just a customary magic!” 2 They have belied, and follow their own fancies. But, every issue will be settled! 3 Messages deterring them from evil had come to them, 4 Wisdom consummate. But warnings avail not. 5 so ignore them. On the Day when the Crier will call out about a horrible event, 6 With looks downcast they will come forth, from the tombs, as though they were locusts scattered abroad. 7 running with outstretched necks to the Caller. The unbelievers shall say, 'This is a hard day!' 8 ۞ Before these, the people of Nooh denied and they belied Our bondman and said, “He is a madman” and rebuffed him. 9 Thereupon he called out to his Sustainer, "Verily, I am defeated; come Thou, then, to my succour!" 10 And We opened up the flood gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed. 12 And We bore him on that which was made of planks and nails 13 which sailed on under Our supervision: a reward for him who had been shown ingratitude. 14 And indeed, We have caused such [floating vessels] to remain forever a sign [of Our grace unto man]: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 15 How terrible then was My punishment and My warning. 16 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 Smashing down men as if they were uprooted trunks of date palms. 20 for, how severe is the suffering which I inflict when My warnings are disregarded! 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
