The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 and purify your robes, 4 stay away from sins 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
