He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Dust shall cover them 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
