Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And by ten nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Join My worshipers and 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
