[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hood said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Do you build useless monuments on every mountain 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 and fear Him who has succoured you with what you know, 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 “And with gardens and water-springs.” 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether you preach or be not of those who preach. 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 and we shall never be punished' 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
