a large group of the earlier people 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 But those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) those of the left hand -- 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 Which is neither cool nor is for respect. 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 and would say: "What! After we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 Will be eating from trees of zaqqum 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 and will thereupon have to drink [many a draught] of burning despair 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 This is their reception on the Day of Justice. 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 [For,] were it Our will, We could indeed turn it into chaff, and you would be left to wonder [and to lament,] 65 "We are ruined, 66 "Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)" 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
