The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 And the day resplendent 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
