The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 and he belied the finest 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
