The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Occurrence occurs, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
