۞ (It will be said to the angels): "Assemble those who did wrong, together with their companions (from the devils) and what they used to worship. 22 apart from Allah, and direct them to the path of Hell, 23 Stop them. They must be questioned." 24 They will be asked, "Why do you not help each other?" 25 In fact, on that day they will be submissive. 26 And they will turn to one another and question one another. 27 They shall say: Surely you used to come to us from the right side. 28 They will say: nay! ye yourselves were not believers. 29 "And we had no authority over you. Nay! But you were transgressing people (disobedient, polytheists, and disbelievers). 30 So on us hath been justified the sentence of our Lord: verily we are to taste. 31 So we led you astray, for we ourselves were erring. 32 So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another. 33 As such We shall deal with the evildoers. 34 Truly, when it was said to them: La ilaha ill-Allah "(none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)," they puffed themselves up with pride (i.e. denied it). 35 saying, 'What, shall we forsake our gods for a poet possessed?' 36 (They say so although) he brought the Truth and confirmed the veracity of the Messengers. 37 (They will be told): “You shall taste the grievous chastisement. 38 And you shall not be rewarded except (for) what you did. 39 But for the sincere worshipers of Allah, 40 [in the hereafter,] theirs shall be a sustenance which they will recognize 41 as the fruits [of their life on earth]; and honoured shall they be 42 in gardens of bliss, 43 upon couches, set face to face, 44 Round will be passed to them a Cup from a clear-flowing fountain, 45 White, delicious to those who drink. 46 No headiness there shall be therein, nor shall they be therewith inebriated. 47 And besides them will be chaste women, restraining their glances, with big eyes (of wonder and beauty). 48 (Delicate and pure) as if they were (hidden) eggs (well) preserved. 49 Then one turned to the other in an enquiry. 50 One of them will say, "I had a companion who asked me, 51 "Who used to say, 'what! art thou amongst those who bear witness to the Truth (of the Message)? 52 What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be requited?" 53 He saith: Will ye look? 54 Then he looked down and saw him in the midst of hell. 55 He will say, "By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 But for my Lord's blessing, I were one of the arraigned. 57 What, do we then not die 58 Save our first death, and are we not to be tormented? 59 This is certainly the greatest triumph 60 For such a reward should the workers perform. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of al-Zaqqum? 62 We have appointed it as a trial for the evildoers. 63 for, behold, it is a tree that grows in the very heart of the blazing fire [of hell,] 64 The fruit thereof is as though the hoods of the serpents. 65 and they [who are lost in evil] are indeed bound to eat thereof, and to fill their bellies therewith. 66 And thereafter verily they shall have thereon a draught of boiling water. 67 Then thereafter, verily, their return is to the flaming fire of Hell. 68 They had indeed found their forefathers astray. 69 and they run in their footsteps. 70 And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them; 71 and We had sent among them Messengers to warn them. 72 Therefore see what sort of fate befell those who were warned! 73 Only Our sincere servants were saved. 74
